K&L Gates Washington, D.C., Partner Earns Lifetime Achievement Award

22 July 2019
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Government Relations Group (WGRG), an association that helps advance African-American government relations professionals’ careers and leadership abilities, will recognize William Kirk, a partner in the public policy and law practice of K&L Gates LLP’s Washington, D.C., office, with the Reginald “Reg” Gilliam Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award will be presented during WGRG’s tenth annual Tin Cup awards dinner on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., along with awards to three Members of Congress and a non-profit association for leadership in diversity, as well as recognition to a journalist for their diversity efforts.

“We’re honored to work alongside such a deserving colleague as Bill,” said K&L Gates Global Managing Partner James Segerdahl. “His strength of character, work ethic, and commitment are just a few of the many reasons he’s worthy of such an honor.”

Kirk represents clients such as public and private entities, major corporations, investment firms, venture capital funds, and national trade associations before Congress and executive branch agencies with an emphasis on tax, financial services, corporate, and transportation and infrastructure matters. He also provides policy analysis and strategic advocacy advice and engagement, and counsels clients on diversity and inclusion issues.

Prior to his robust legal career, Kirk served as a congressional staff member, holding positions as an advisor to Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) and as a senior staff member of the House Ways and Means Committee, including as Staff Director of the Committee’s Oversight panel then chaired by Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY). He serves on the steering committee of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Political Action Committee and on the board of the CBC Political Education and Leadership Institute.

“Bill is an extraordinarily talented lawyer and lobbyist who exhibits our core values of service, integrity, and teamwork on a daily basis,” said Darrell Conner, a government affairs counselor and co-leader of the policy practice in Washington, D.C. “He is a leader, mentor, partner and friend to many people, including me. This recognition is well-deserved.”

WGRG is a non-partisan, independent, volunteer association with members that represent corporations, financial institutions, law firms, trade associations, state, county and municipal governments, and non-profit organizations on a broad range of policy areas in the state, federal, and international arenas. The goal of the organization is to increase the dialogue between WGRG members and key senior-level policy makers to aid in creating public policy solutions.
