Ms. Virgo is a corporate and regulatory lawyer in the Melbourne Corporate and Transactional team, focusing on healthcare and life science industries. Ms. Virgo advises clients on a range of health matters, including compliance with regulatory requirements, contracting, structuring and mergers and acquisitions. 

Ms. Virgo's clients include public and private health service providers, private health insurers, aged care and retirement living operators and managers and pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies.

During 2019, Ms. Virgo worked for eight months on secondment at Australia's largest private health insurance provider, Medibank Private Limited. During her secondment, Ms. Virgo advised on a range of regulatory and consumer law issues relevant to both the ahm and Medibank brands.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Ms. Virgo worked as a paralegal in a national law firm. Ms. Virgo also completed seasonal clerkships at another global law firm and a national law firm.

  • Advising clients operating in the aged care industry in relation to their preparation for the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
  • Advising a number of organisations on various aspects of their health practices, including the acquisition and sale of various medical practices and aged care/retirement living facilities and structuring, due diligence and advising on regulatory issues relevant to the same. 
  • Advising a number of health service providers and medical device and biotechnology companies on specific compliance with State and Commonwealth legislation (such as the Health Practitioner Regulation National Laws, Health Insurance Act, Private Health Insurance Act and State based health legislation). 
  • Advising a number of private health insurers on private health insurance and health regulation, advertising and privacy.  
  • Advising clients on compliance with regulations relating to the advertisement of health services with a particular focus on compliance with the uniform Health Practitioner Regulation National Laws and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency codes of conduct. 
  • Providing privacy advice to clients in the health industry. 
  • Advising a U.S. based manufacturer of industrial products in relation to its obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).
