Caitlin Polus is an associate in the firm’s Technology Transactions and Data Protection group, based in the Seattle office. She focuses her practice on intellectual property matters and supports a diverse range of technology oriented transactions, including development, licensing, and outsourcing agreements. Ms. Polus also assists clients with a wide variety of matters related to intellectual property protection and ownership, including privacy policies and product warranties, legal and regulatory compliance, and confidentiality agreements. She has experience negotiating complex commercial agreements for the sale and distribution of technology, including software, hardware, software as a service, and other hosted engagements.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Ms. Polus was legal counsel for the Americas at a British-headquartered financial technology company in New York where she drafted and negotiated commercial agreements in connection with software licensing and hosted solutions, including multi-million dollar equity and options trading platforms, connectivity services, and market data. Ms. Polus also advised on employment, intellectual property, compliance, and confidentiality matters.

Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Polus spent three years as an in-house lawyer at a multinational Fortune 50 technology company where she provided legal support and guidance to sales and product teams in connection with software, services, hardware, cloud services, outsourcing, and consulting engagements. She also advised on issues relating to confidentiality, data privacy and security, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.

Before attending law school, Ms. Polus worked as a litigation paralegal at a large law firm in New York and as a corporate paralegal at an international law firm in Paris, France.
