Camilla de Moraes is a senior associate in the Energy, Infrastructure and Resources area in the firm’s London office. She focuses on disputes arising out of complex construction, infrastructure and energy disputes. Camilla’s practice involves international arbitration as well as other forms of dispute resolution, including adjudication and expert determination.

Camilla has also acted for clients in respect of non-contentious construction matters, including negotiating and drafting construction documentation.


Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. de Moraes was an associate in the London office of an international law firm, focusing her practice on construction and infrastructure disputes.

Contentious experience
  • Advising a developer in respect of various contractual issues and disputes arising from the long term concession agreement and power purchase agreement relating to a power plant in East Africa. 
  • Acting for the employer in a Doha seated ICC arbitration defending claims made by the EPC contractor in relation to the construction of a gas fired power plant in Qatar. 
  • Acting for a UK energy company in respect of a dispute following the termination of a long-term contract for the generation of power from gas produced at a UK landfill site. 
  • Acting for a European based airport operator in an expert determination, and subsequently an LCIA arbitration, against a retail contractor in respect of a dispute arising from the payment of the retail fee. 
  • Advising a petrochemical company based in the Middle East on the potential effect of a proposed reorganisation of its marketing and distribution arrangement, particularly in respect of any potential bilateral investment treaty claims. 
  • Advising a UK mining company in relation to its interest in Venezuela as indirect lender to and minority shareholder in a Canadian mining company. The advice was in respect of a potential bilateral investment treaty claim against Venezuela. 
  • Advising a facilities management contractor under a PFI structure in respect of a hospital in Oxford in relation to a dispute concerning deductions from payments imposed by the project company. 
  • Advising a facilities management contractor in respect of a potential claim against the project company in a PFI matter in respect of a number of schools in Leeds. The dispute relates to a reduction of service fee levels payable under the facilities management agreement imposed by the project company. 
  • Acting for a major Chinese contractor on a number of contractual issues and disputes concerning a substantial retail development in St Petersburg, including the preliminary stages of an SCC arbitration.

Non-contentious experience
  • Advising purchasers and conducting due diligence in relation to the construction aspects of various real estate transactions including the sale and purchase of commercial mixed-use premises in central London. 
  • Advising a developer in drafting and negotiating construction contracts and consultants’ appointments in relation to a national museum in the Middle East. 
  • Regularly advising on the dispute resolution provisions of various construction and finance agreements. 
  • Advising a UK company on its existing contractual obligations to provide technical assistance for equipment used in the oil and gas industry in Syria. 
  • Advising an EU registered company on the potential acquisition of a shareholding in a Canadian company with assets in Sudan, in respect of the current EU and UK sanctions in place against Sudan.
