Christopher Valente is a partner in the firm’s Boston and Washington, D.C. offices. Mr. Valente represents clients in state and federal courts throughout the United States and focuses on complex civil litigation in the areas of commercial disputes, financial services, insurance coverage, and construction. He has significant experience managing all stages of complex civil litigation from inception through trial.

Mr. Valente has litigated cases involving a broad range of commercial and business-related issues, including claims of fraud, securities fraud, defamation, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, and unfair business practices. He has defended banking and mortgage-lending institutions from common law claims and claims brought pursuant to state and federal statutes.

Mr. Valente has represented corporate policyholders seeking coverage under many different types of insurance policies. His recent insurance coverage experience includes cases involving pollution liability policies, D&O policies, fidelity/commercial crime policies, professional liability policies, and property policies.

Mr. Valente has also assisted in government and regulatory enforcement actions, as well as internal investigations across diverse variety of subject matters.

Professional/Civic Activities

Mr. Valente is an active member of the Boston legal community. Mr. Valente is a member of the Boston Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the Boston Bar Foundation (BBF) and has chaired and served on the steering committees of numerous fundraising efforts to advance the BBF’s mission of helping thousands of individuals and families through pro bono programs, grants to legal services organizations. Mr. Valente is also a member of the Tufts Lawyers Association; having most recently served as its President.

In addition, Mr. Valente is a Vice President and member of Executive Committee of the Tufts Alumni Council, the governing body of the Tufts University Alumni Association. In 2013, Mr. Valente received the Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his service to Tufts University Alumni Association.

Mr. Valente also serves on the Firm’s Diversity Committee and co-chairs its LGBTQ Subcommittee.

  • Represented client in malpractice and breach of contract lawsuit against former accounting and auditing firm, which resulted in a multi-million dollar jury verdict in the client’s favor.
  • Represented the quasi-public agency responsible for the solid waste disposal for the State of Rhode Island in connection with multiple actions against various entities arising from widespread mismanagement and abuse involving the former commissioners and executives of the agency. This representation has resulted in the recovery of in excess of $15 million from a variety of sources, including the agency’s D&O liability and commercial crime policies.
  • Represented West Virginia University in litigation concerning WVU’s departure from The Big East Conference, which ultimately resulted in a settlement that allowed WVU to becoming a member of The Big 12 Conference for the 2012-13 season.

  • Represented large institutional investors as victims of a $1.5 billion investment fraud scheme in parallel civil and criminal cases pending in District Court for the Southern District of New York.
  • Represented indenture trustee in civil action brought by minority bondholders following going-concern sale of bond-financed continuing care retirement facility.
  • Represents global EPC contractor in multi-billion dollar ICC arbitration involving the design and construction of one of the largest refineries in Latin America.
  • Represented placement agent/underwriter of municipal securities in litigation arising out of the failure of 38 Studios, LLC, a start-up videogame development company.
  • Represented private and publicly traded companies in civil actions to prevent the disclosure and use of confidential information and trade secrets by former executives and employees.
