Corey Bieber counsels technology manufacturers, game developers, studios, and cross-media companies at the intersection of interactive technology and commercial reality. His practice covers technology transactions, IP licensing, data protection and privacy, and AI governance.
Clients come to him with the questions these technologies actually raise.
In manufacturing and industrial technology, he advises on the licensing and data ownership issues behind connected machinery, AR/VR training, motion capture ergonomics, and digital twin deployments - including who owns the data a digital twin generates and whether a machine-generated model is a derivative work.
In gaming and interactive media, he counsels developers, studios, and cross-media companies on publisher, platform, and open source terms; rights clearance across comics, games, film, and merchandise; and how AI-assisted development changes what studios can protect and what they can safely use.
The two practices share a foundation: immersive technology, real-time data, and IP built on top of someone else's platform. Corey works on both sides of that line.
Before practicing law, Corey spent more than 20 years in software development and information technology, including work as a developer and solutions architect. That background is the foundation of the practice: he understands the systems his clients build at the level of the architecture, not just the contract. He is a Certified Ethical Hacker - nationally recognized for his white hat work - a CISSP, and a named inventor on a software design patent. He heads the firm's Video Game and Immersive Technology Group and serves as the firm's artificial intelligence liaison for the Intellectual Property practice group.
Corey began his career in technology, spending over a decade as a software developer and solutions architect in the healthcare industry. He then served as an in-house information technology and legal consultant for a major health insurer, handling HIPAA privacy and security, TCPA compliance, and web and mobile terms of use and privacy policies, and chaired a cross-divisional committee engaging FTC and FDA policy on mobile technology. After practicing as counsel in the Chicago office of an international law firm, he joined K&L Gates, where he developed the litigation analytics platform the firm uses to conduct data audits and exposure assessments in data-intensive class action litigation.
