Corey Bieber

Corey Bieber is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office. Corey concentrates his practice in data protection and emerging technologies, including legal compliance involving: virtual reality, video games, artificial intelligence, deep fake technology, biometric systems, blockchain, and conventional software and technology systems. He has more than 20 years of experience in the software development and information technology industry, including over a decade as a software developer and solutions architect in the healthcare industry. His deep experience focuses particularly in the areas of data privacy and security and compliance with state and federal consumer protection laws, technology licensing, software as a services agreements, software copyrights, and trade secret protection. 

Corey regularly counsels universities, game software and hardware developers, healthcare systems, and other technology providers in the on a variety of matters concerning the underlying technology involved in licensing agreements and software copyrights. He uses his experience in technology development and architecture to advise clients on information technology vulnerabilities and develop policies and procedures to secure client data and comply with applicable laws. 

He also developed the firms litigation analytics platform which the firm uses in connection with data intensive class action litigation to conduct data audits and perform exposure and merits assessments based on advanced data processing techniques. Corey has worked extensively with the analysis of email, census, payroll, and time card data—including biometric data—in support of fraud investigations and employment claims. 

Corey is a Certified Ethical Hacker (who has been nationally recognized for his white hat hacks), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and a Certified Information Privacy Professional (US). He earned a BMA Platinum - Best Mobile App Awards for his work on “Centered,” a mindfulness based wellness app, and is listed as an inventor on the software design patent. He currently serves as the firms artificial intelligence liaison for the Intellectual Property practice group. 

Outside of his professional experience, Corey, an Iraq war veteran, participates in pro bono representation of disabled veterans before the VA Regional Office.

Prior to joining the firm, Corey was counsel in the Chicago office of an international law firm. In addition, Corey served as an in-house information technology and legal consultant for a major health insurer where he was responsible for matters involving HIPAA privacy and security; web and mobile terms of use and privacy policies; vendor contract management; and the Telecommunication Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). He also chaired a cross divisional committee that worked to influence federal policy and regulations concerning mobile technology; namely, policies developed by the FTC and FDA. Additionally, he represented his employer on the Mobile Privacy Legislative Action Committee of the Mobile Marketing Association.
