Mr Castelli is a Special Counsel in the Brisbane Real Estate team. He works across The renewable energy, resources and infrastructure projects sector, as well as having experience managing the acquisition, development, leasing and disposal of commercial, industrial, retail and residential property. His experience in this work is broad as he is required to have a working knowledge of, and manage specialist teams in advising on, the regulatory, construction, environment, insurance, finance and tenure aspects of the matters. Mr Castelli has transacted matters that span across several Australian jurisdictions.

General Real Estate
  • Acting for a major real estate group in the acquisition, leasing and disposal of commercial office, retail, accommodation, hotel and industrial properties in Queensland (most recently the sale of a $106M Brisbane Office Tower). Assisting in the acquisition of a number of tenanted industrial properties with a view to establishing an industrial REIT (which has also required negotiation with tenants during the acquisition to extend WALE in turn requiring construction and other incentives to be negotiated and documented).   • Acting for an ASX 200 listed self-storage REIT in acquiring property (both freehold and leasehold) and storage businesses in all States (generally from $5M to $20M). This has required the development of streamlined precedent acquisition documents and processes that are able to be easily adapted to each State. (Prior to K&L Gates)
  • The planning, development and off the plan sale of a ($400M) two tower mixed use 500 unit strata title development on the Gold Coast. Additional challenges have been the introduction of Chinese inbound investors to the Australian market and transaction processes. (Prior to K&L Gates)
  • Undertaking due diligence and negotiating transaction documents for the acquisition of large scale cattle properties and feed lots in Queensland. (Prior to K&L Gates)

Infrastructure and Resources

  • Development of a solar farm project at Barcaldine in Queensland (25MW) and a hybrid wind and solar farm at Cania in Queensland including devising innovative solutions for the tenure associated with grid connection across varying tenure types. (Prior to K&L Gates)
  • Investment into the Ross River Solar Farm (148MW) project in Queensland which required real estate due diligence and tenure document negotiation to meet the interests of the project holder, investors and project financiers all of whom were separately represented. (Prior to K&L Gates)
  • Acting for the Port and liaising with the State and Coal Industry Proponents on the development and operation of the $4bn 80 mtpa Stage 1 of the coal industry owned Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal in Gladstone. (Prior to K&L Gates)
  • Acting for the Translational Research Institute (owned by the State Government and State Universities and Hospitals) on the construction, funding (including Commonwealth and State) and operation of the building and scientific infrastructure associated with the bed to bench Translational Research Institute at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Australian Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Queensland.
