K&L Gates Adds Corporate, Disputes Partners in Beijing, Hong Kong

15 April 2016
Beijing and Hong Kong - Global law firm K&L Gates welcomes Henry Wang and Jay Chiu as partners in the firm’s China offices. Wang arrives at K&L Gates’ Beijing office from Mayer Brown JSM, while Chiu joins the firm’s Hong Kong office from Goodwin Procter LLP, where he served as head of the Asian intellectual property and litigation practice. Their additions bring K&L Gates’ headcount in Asia to more than 110 lawyers, including six partners in Beijing and 12 partners in Hong Kong.

Joining K&L Gates’ corporate and transactional practice area, Wang has 20 years of experience advising top-tier domestic and multinational corporations, financial institutions, and private investors on a full range of corporate matters involving China. With a focus on outbound transactions, he frequently counsels Chinese companies seeking to establish or expand their business beyond mainland China. A former general counsel at General Motors, Shanghai, Wang is experienced in advising on the structure of domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance transactions, joint ventures and wholly foreign-owned entities, and licensing agreements and commercial contracts.

Chiu joins K&L Gates’ litigation and dispute resolution practice. With substantial experience advising on complex litigation and intellectual property matters, including a focus on U.S. patent litigation, contested Patent Office proceedings, licensing, and counseling matters, Chiu will add to K&L Gates’ already deep capabilities on cross-border technology deals and matters. Admitted in Hong Kong and California, Chiu has more than 14 years of patent litigation experience, having represented a diverse range of technology clients including computer, semiconductor, liquid crystal display, optical storage, software, and telecommunication companies. In addition to guiding clients in pre-litigation analysis and negotiating licenses, Chiu also advises and acts for clients in regards to commercial disputes, internal investigations, FCPA, and international arbitration matters.

“We are very pleased to have Henry and Jay join our team here,” commented David Tang, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Asia. “Both are highly regarded in their fields and their capabilities further boost both our regional and cross-border offerings. Their additions also mark our firm’s commitment to continued expansion and growth in Asia, not merely in headcount, but also in the depth and continuity of our practice offerings.”

K&L Gates comprises approximately 2,000 lawyers globally who practice in fully integrated offices located on five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
