Paul D. Levin

Dr. Levin is a patent agent at the firm’s Pittsburgh office, where he is a member of the firm’s Patent, Trademarks, Copyrights & Related Transactions group. He concentrates his practice in electrical engineering, medical devices, optics, sonar, radar, and digital signal processing. He also has experience in drafting US patent applications and PCT patent applications for filings in Europe, Asia, and South America. Through his professional contacts with foreign associates, he has also developed an extensive understanding of patent examination practice in Australia, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and Taiwan.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Levin was a US patent agent for a national law firm in Pittsburgh. In addition, he was a US patent agent, principal biomedical scientist, and staff research engineer for a local Pittsburgh medical devices company. He also worked as a programmer/analyst for the University of Pittsburgh’s MR Research Center, and as a research programmer for Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. At one Pittsburgh start-up company, Dr. Levin was a computer network systems administrator and manager of quality assurance. He was also the director of engineering in another start-up medical devices company. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, Dr. Levin was a research associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Dr. Levin holds a first degree black belt (shodan) in Kodokan Judo, and has studied other Japanese martial arts including aiki-jutsu, ken-jutsu, and iai-jutsu at a Pittsburgh-based traditional martial arts dojo. His international travel experiences include the Isle of Skye, Europe, Japan, and Xinjiang Province, China. He also raises orchids and his orchid hybrids are registered with the International Orchid Register of the Royal Horticultural Society (Kew Gardens).
