Yale Law Women Recognizes K&L Gates Among Top 10 Family Friendly Firms

8 July 2016
Orange County - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has been named to Yale Law Women’s prestigious list of the Top 10 Family Friendly Firms of 2016. The annual survey monitors trends in the legal industry, and considers law firm policies relating to part-time and flex-time options, parental leave and family accommodations, gender equity, billing requirements, and professional development. K&L Gates was among the 10 firms with the highest overall scores in Yale Law Women’s 2016 analysis of these various metrics.

“Our recognition by Yale Law Women is a testament to the environment we strive to create at our firm,” said Janice Hartman, K&L Gates’ global development partner and chair of the firm’s Women in the Profession Committee.

“Last year, Chambers USA rated our firm’s women’s initiative, led by our Women in the Profession Committee, as the top such initiative in the U.S. legal industry,” commented Valerie Jackson, K&L Gates’ senior advisor to the management committee and firmwide director of diversity & inclusion. “It is encouraging to be recognized, first by Chambers and now again by Yale Law Women, for our work in this area.”

The Yale survey analyzed publicly available information from the National Association of Law Placement for nearly 70 law firms and weighed that data based on the results of a concurrent survey of Yale Law School alumni currently working at Vault Law 100 firms.

K&L Gates also was recognized among the survey’s Top Five Family Friendly Firms in Washington, D.C., in addition to being cited by Yale alumni as one of the highest-achieving firms for gender equity.

“Yale Law Women are doing very important work, and we are honored to have been ranked by them as a top firm in the U.S. and here in Washington, D.C.,” stated Diane Ambler, a partner in K&L Gates’ Washington, D.C., office and a member of the National Association of Women Lawyers board of directors.

A student-driven organization at Yale Law School, Yale Law Women works to advance the status of women at Yale Law and in the legal profession at large, providing programming, resources, and mentorship opportunities to bolster women’s pursuit of their professional and personal goals.

Last year, K&L Gates was named the Outstanding Firm for Furthering Women’s Advancement (Recruitment, Retention and Promotion) in the Chambers Women in Law Awards, USA 2015. The award, which recognizes firms and corporations that provide a work environment in which female lawyers can thrive, highlighted the work of K&L Gates’ firmwide Women in the Profession Committee and its mission of helping women lawyers advance in their careers, with a particular focus on business development and promotion as leaders and role models.
