Bertrand Dussert is a partner in the firm’s Paris office. He concentrates his practice on French and international corporate, private equity and finance tax matters.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Dussert was a founding partner in a Paris boutique tax firm. He also has extensive experience in tax matters at the Paris office of another international firm, where he was responsible for establishing the firm’s Paris tax department. He began his career at another international firm for which he worked in Paris and The Netherlands.


Mr. Dussert was recommended as Leading Tax Practitioner by Chambers & Partners Europe. Mr Dussert is regularly ranked by Legal 500 EMEA and Legal 500 France for his tax practice, as well as by French specialized magazine Décideurs Droit et Affaires.

He is the co-author of the book “Fiscalité Internationale du Patrimoine” (International private Wealth Taxation) - 2016.
  • Advising VTG Aktiengesellschaft, one of Europe’s leading rail freight and logistics companies, on the €780,000,000 purchase of all shares of CIT Rail Holdings (Europe) SAS and its related Nacco Group from CIT Group Inc;
  • Advising ABN AMRO Investment Solutions on the transfer to CANDRIAM of its direct investment management business. The agreement consists of the transfer of ca. € 8,000,000,000 in assets under management in institutional mandates and dedicated funds as well as open-ended French-regulated funds.
  • Assisting The Normandy Memorial Trust (http://www.normandymemorialtrust.org/) chaired by Peter Ricketts, the former British ambassador in France, on the acquisition of lands and the construction of a British D-Day Memorial above Gold Beach to commemorate the 21.000 British soldiers who died in Normandy The K&L Gates Paris tax team obtained a ruling from the French Central Tax Administration securing a complete VAT exemption on the construction costs;
  • Advising the founders and managers of France-based mortgage brokerage specialist Artemis Courtage on their OBO transaction with RAISE Investissement;
  • Advising French listed company Ipsos in relation to the creation of Ipsos Partners, a management company with approx. 150 managers of the Ipsos group in the world;
  • Advising Canadian listed group Boralex Inc. on the acquisition of a portfolio of 200MW of wind power projects located in France and in Scotland, as well as on the acquisition of about 8,500 hectares of land where the projects will be developed;
  • Advising Sanofi Pasteur MSD in relation to the de-merger between Sanofi and Merck in the vaccines business;
  • Advising FactSet, a global provider of integrated financial information, analytical applications, and industry-leading service, on its acquisition of BISAM Technologies S.A. (“BISAM”), a leading provider of portfolio performance and attribution, multi-asset risk, GIPS composites management and reporting, from Aquiline Capital Partners and company management;
  • Advising HIG European Capital Partners SAS in the sale of a majority interest in Financière Looping Holding;
  • Advising Riverside Europe Partners and the CEO of HRA Pharma in relation to the sale of HRA Pharma to Astorg Partners and Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division;
  • Advising a family office on the sale of Hermès Headquarters building in Paris CBD (prime real estate asset) to a French institutional investor represented by DTZ Investors France (CNP Assurances)
  • Advised Kai Yuan Holdings Limited, an investment holding company listed on the Hong-Kong Stock Exchange, in the sale and purchase agreement to buy the premises and business of the Paris Marriott Champs-Elysées hotel;
  • Advising Microsoft US on its acquisition of Capptain S.A.S., a French company developing CRM solutions and applications for mobile devices;
  • Advising global credit manager Marathon Asset Management on the acquisition of a €280m continental European commercial property loan portfolio from Lloyds Banking Group. Known as Project Aberdonia, the transaction covers a portfolio secured by 82 properties primarily in France and Germany;
  • Advising 3D Systems Europe Ltd, a subsidiary of 3D Systems Corporation and leading global provider of 3D printing technology, in its acquisition of 81% of the share capital of Phenix Systems. Phenix Systems, listed on the French ALTERNEXT market (NYSE EURONEXT), focuses on the design and manufacture of 3D printers that print industrial grade parts;
  • Advising the private equity arm of French financial institution Natexis Banques Populaires on the tax position of its international venture capital operations
  • Advising a leading Franco-Spanish property group on the tax structuring aspects of a € 50,000,000 property development on the Normandy coast
  • Advising Ciments Français (Italcementi Group) and Groupe Libaud on a € 25.000.000 Spanish tax lease relating to the acquisition of a Dredger Vessel
  • Advising French Railways SNCF on tax aspects of the biggest ever USD 1,200,000,000 Cross-Border Lease Financing of Qualified Technological Equipement (QTE)
