Erica Messimer is an associate in the Charlotte office. Ms. Messimer focuses her practice on estate planning, estate and trust administration and charitable planning.

Ms. Messimer counsels and represents clients in all aspects of their estate planning needs, including tax planning, wealth transfer strategies, business succession planning, asset protection, charitable gifting, and document preparation related to these personal planning matters. She also represents clients in trust and estate administration matters, including probate and non-probate proceedings. Ms. Messimer counsels individuals for their planning needs as well as fiduciaries such as personal representatives and trustees in estate and trust matters. In addition, Ms. Messimer counsels nonprofit organizations on formation and compliance issues.

Ms. Messimer has experience in the U.S. federal and state tax analysis of various domestic and international tax transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, partnership creation and transactions, and private equity and venture capital investments. In addition, Ms. Messimer has experience with federal and state controversy matters, foreign income reporting requirements, federal and state incentive programs, and all aspects of federal tax credit and North Carolina and South Carolina state tax credit transactions, including historic tax credits and renewable energy tax credits. Ms. Messimer has also counseled and represented clients in mortgage and asset-backed securitization transactions.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Messimer was a tax associate at another law firm in Charlotte. She engaged in a broad tax practice and has experience in federal and state tax planning and controversy matters and in estate planning matters.
