Bankruptcy and Commercial Law: Mr. Cheever has represented lenders, trade suppliers, commercial landlords, and other creditors in Chapter 11 cases throughout the United States. He has also represented purchasers of assets of bankrupt businesses, creditor and equity security holder committees, and business entities reorganizing under Chapter 11. Bankruptcy-related matters that he typically handles include preference and other avoidance power litigation, the purchase and sale of bankruptcy claims, reclamation proceedings, automatic stay litigation, bankruptcy sales, contested plan confirmation hearings, and debtor in possession financing. Mr. Cheever also works in the areas of structured finance, secured transactions, commercial collections, foreclosures, out-of-court restructurings, and lender liability. He is a member of the firm’s opinion committee, and is a frequent speaker at national and regional bankruptcy and commercial law symposia.

Professional Background

Before joining K&L Gates, Mr. Cheever served as a law clerk to Associate Justice Thomas W. Pomeroy, Jr. of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Mr. Cheever is a past president of the Allegheny County Bar Association Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section.
