Ivan Qiu is a member of the aviation finance practice group. His practice includes civil and commercial litigation, with experience in shareholder disputes, claims involving breach of fiduciary duties, contractual disputes, fraud and asset recovery, intellectual property disputes, and urgent injunctive relief. He is also actively involved in representing and advising one of the two Singapore Integrated Resorts.

Professional Background

Mr. Qiu graduated with Second Upper Class Honours in Law from the University of Tasmania, Australia and qualified as an advocate and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2016.

  • Acting for a company operating a chain of aesthetic medicine clinics in its defence of a claim of around US$19 million arising out a purported guarantee.
  • Advising and acting for various parties in a multi-million claim involving the tracing and recovery of assets from multiple jurisdictions.
  • Defending a group of shareholders in a minority oppression dispute involving the shareholders of a leading electronics manufacturer.
  • Acting for a group of purchasers against a claim brought by United Overseas Bank Limited for fraud relating to mortgage loans amounting to an aggregate sum of SG$181 million.
  • Advising an individual in respect of commercial offences, including offences relating to market-misconduct, insider trading, as well as disclosure and fraud-related offences.
  • Advising a global offshore oil and gas company on risk and compliance issues relating to possible breaches under the Singapore Exchange listing rules.
  • Advised and acted for various SME in employment related matters, including enforcement of restrictive covenants against former employees.
Intellectual Property
  • Cicada Cube Pte Ltd v National University Hospital (Singapore) Pte Ltd [2018] SGCA 52 was a cross-appeal relating to an ownership of a patent where the Singapore Court of Appeal considered for the first time the principles and procedures applicable to the determination of patent entitlement.
  • Advising a local SME in defending a claim for trademark infringement.
Gaming Law Litigation/Related Work
  • Acting for one of the Singapore Integrated Resorts in a claim in excess of SG$10 million as well as enforcement action in Hong Kong against a foreign individual.
  • Advising and acting for a resort and casino operator in connection with various credit agreement disputes.
  • Advising a joint venture company on online payment requirements under the Casino Control Act.
Arbitration
  • Advising and acting in an arbitration claim brought by a German electronics company against a Korean company in arbitration under ICC rules involving a contractual claim of €15 million.
