John E. Susoreny

Mr. Susoreny is a member of the firm’s Antitrust, Competition & Trade Regulation practice group. He focuses on complex civil litigation with a focus on antitrust, cartel and trade regulation and has experience with antitrust disputes and investigations arising in a number of industries, including pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, paper and food products. He has experience in counseling clients on antitrust compliance policies and has performed antitrust compliance audits to assess and improve clients’ compliance with antitrust laws. He has worked on price discrimination, price fixing, patent licensing, merger and regulatory matters.

In addition, Mr. Susoreny has considerable experience negotiating and drafting product distribution agreements in various industries. He counsels clients on franchising and distribution matters and on the application of various state and federal laws governing the distribution of products.

Mr. Susoreny also has extensive experience in providing pro bono legal services, including successfully representing several individuals seeking political asylum in the United States.

In 2016, the K&L Gates Chicago antitrust and competition group was recognized as the “Cartel & Trade Regulation Law Firm of the Year in Illinois” by the international review and assessment programs of both Corporate INTL Magazine and Global Law Experts.

Professional Background

Prior to law school, Mr. Susoreny worked as a commercial real estate broker and real estate analyst.  He has experience with mergers, acquisitions and portfolio management for domestic and international companies.

  • Defended multiple complex antitrust and unfair competition cases, including putative class actions.
  • Member of litigation team that won summary judgment for a pharmacy benefit manager against price-fixing claims.
  • Represented large corporate clients in government-investigated and contested mergers.
  • Represented food product supplier in contract dispute with distributor.
  • Successfully litigated breach of contract suit against distributor and received favorable judgment for full amount of monies owed to client.
  • Member of litigation team that defended a major supplier to the beverage industry against Robinson-Patman Act allegations and related state law claims.
  • Member of litigation team that defended a major containerboard manufacture against Sherman Act claims related to an alleged output reduction scheme
  • Multiple appearances in state and federal court.
  • Represented several homeowners in various disputes involving damage from neighboring construction, allegations of trespass, easement violation, and violations of various state and municipal ordinances.
  • Regularly advised multiple clients on a variety of contractual issues and disputes, including establishment of template contract agreements and contracting protocols.
  • Extensive experience with negotiating and drafting contracts relating to a variety of transactions for multiple clients.
