Kacy Dicke is a registered patent attorney experienced in all aspects of intellectual property law including patent prosecution, litigation, client counseling, and opinion work. Ms. Dicke is also experienced with trade secret law and has represented clients in matters involving the Defend Trade Secrets Act of 2016. Prior to being a lawyer, Ms. Dicke worked as a global design engineer for a large chemical manufacturing company.

As a PTO-registered lawyer, Ms. Dicke has extensive experience handling standard patent prosecution matters as well as matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Ms. Dicke’s litigation experience includes matters before the Northern Districts of Illinois, the District of Delaware, the Southern District of California, the Western and Eastern Districts of Texas, the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Western District of Tennessee both in supporting and defending charges of patent infringement. Ms. Dicke also has experience in appellate practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Section 337 investigations in the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Ms. Dicke’s experience involves a variety of technologies, including work in the fields of food sciences, telecommunications, computer systems and software, medical devices, passive RFID technology, automotive parts, cellular telephone technology, and security systems.

Professional Background

During law school, Ms. Dicke worked both as a summer associate for K&L Gates LLP and as a legal intern in the in-house intellectual property department of Trading Technologies International, a Chicago-based company that produces software for the electronic trading industry. She also worked as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Martin Ashman in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Prior to law school, she worked for Dow Corning, first as a global design engineer, then as a maintenance and reliability engineer responsible for the hydrochloric acid purification process. Ms. Dicke also worked as an engineering co-op for Anheuser Busch at multiple manufacturing locations.

  • Counsel for TRW Automotive in the Eastern District of Michigan. The case was resolved favorably.
  • Counsel for LKQ Corporation in the Northern District of Illinois. Court granted summary judgment of invalidity leading to a favorable settlement.
  • Counsel for Baxter International, Inc. in the Northern District of Illinois against competitor Fresenius. The case was resolved favorably.
  • Counsel for Plaintiff Zebra Technologies Corp. in Northern District of Illinois litigation against competitor Intermec. The case was resolved favorably.
