Mr. Komo is an associate who focuses his practice on compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), internal investigations, government enforcement actions, white collar defense, and commercial litigation.

As part of his FCPA practice, Mr. Komo advises companies on compliance with the FCPA. He conducts investigations into alleged corruption, fraud, and other misconduct. He helps companies develop anti-corruption corporate policies and procedures to deter and detect potential FCPA problems. Mr. Komo also undertakes due diligence investigations of current and prospective business partners, distributors, agents, and acquisition targets with evaluations of anti-corruption risks associated with potential M&A deals and joint ventures.

As part of his white collar practice, Mr. Komo advises and defends companies and individuals who are being investigated or prosecuted by the government, and when possible, works to identify and correct regulatory and compliance issues before the government is involved. He has counseled a variety of clients who have been the subject of enforcement actions brought by state and federal agencies. Mr. Komo conducts internal investigations on behalf of clients to evaluate exposure under federal statutes, conducts interviews, and drafts reports. Mr. Komo also works with clients who are responding to government subpoenas.

As part of his litigation practice, Mr. Komo has drafted and successfully argued a variety of substantive motions, including motions for summary judgment, for cases in state and federal court. Mr. Komo has also helped a client obtain an injunction in federal court.

As part of his diversity and inclusion work, Mr. Komo serves as a member of the Pittsburgh office’s Diversity Committee, founder and chair of the Pittsburgh office LGBT Employee Resource Group (LGBT ERG), and recruiter at the National LGBT Bar Association’s Annual Lavender Law Conference.

Mr. Komo is a dedicated member of the firm’s pro bono group. He represents a variety of clients, including revenge porn victims, domestic violence survivors, and transgender individuals seeking name changes.

Mr. Komo has represented the firm at several public policy events and political fundraisers for candidates seeking local, state, and federal elected office.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Komo was a law clerk in Los Angeles for the Honorable Fernando M. Olguin of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, legal fellow for Lambda Legal, legal fellow for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), legislative intern for Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr., and development intern for the Victory Fund Political Action Committee (PAC).

Achievements

  • In 2013, Mr. Komo was one of four LGBT leaders under 30 in Washington, D.C., named by Metro Weekly as a next generation leader and received the magazine’s Next Generation Award presented by Mayor Vincent C. Gray.
  • In 2012, Mr. Komo was the only graduate student to receive GW’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award to honor his diversity and inclusion accomplishments.
