Mr. Heinecke is a senior corporate lawyer having recently joined K&L Gates in March 2018. His focus is on transactions, corporate and commercial matters, corporate advisory, regulatory and compliance advice. He regularly acts on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, infrastructure projects, fundraising and provides governance advice.

He is experienced conducting transactions in the healthcare industry and his experience includes assisting participants in the not-for-profit sector such as peak medical research organisations, healthcare and aged care services providers.

Professional Background

Mr. Heinecke has over 12 years' legal experience, and prior to joining K&L Gates practiced at a national firm where he worked extensively on transactions and advisory in the healthcare sector and previously as In-house Counsel at Macquarie University where he worked on major projects, such as the development of a private hospital.

  • Advising large not-for-profit organisations operating in the health care sector, including peak medical research groups such as Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group and aged care providers such as RSL LifeCare on corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Advising on broad issues as arise in the health and life sciences industry including compliance with industry codes of conduct (for example with regard to advertising of therapeutic goods and engagement with medical professionals), research ethics (in particular conducting human clinical trials) and regulatory compliance.
  • Advising HealthDirect Australia Limited and preparing complex services contracts for a number of national Commonwealth funded health services projects, including the HealthDirect afterhours GP tele-medicine service and a national mental health service delivery platform.
  • Seconded as a senior legal adviser to Sydney Local Health District in the executive office at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
  • Advising Primary Health Care Limited on the sale of Private Health Insurance Fund.
  • Advising on the proposed acquisition of a large pathology business, including laboratory.
  • Providing privacy law compliance advice and policy reviews, recently to the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
  • Advising on issues and transactions in preparation for the public listing of a crypto-currency infrastructure and services business.
  • Advising on the incorporation and conversion of charities, including projects under pro-bono engagements. Examples include the incorporation of Team Rubicon Australia (a global organisation) and medical research foundations.
