Ms. Farrell has more than 13 years' experience as a banking and finance lawyer advising on project, acquisition, general corporate, leveraged, construction, property and cross-border financings.

Ms. Farrell has acted extensively for banks, other financial institutions, developers, institutional investors and other corporate clients on significant financing transactions across a diverse spectrum of industries, including energy, resources, infrastructure, transport, manufacturing, commercial property, hospitality and TMT. She has advised on bilateral, club and syndicated financings (pre- and post-insolvency appointments) and complex cross-border transactions.

Ms. Farrell is personable with an exceptional ability to relate to clients and focus on key issues.

Project Finance
  • Representing a bank syndicate on the successful refinancing of the approx. AUD500 million debt facility and hedging arrangements regarding Malakoff Corporation Berhad’s 50% interest in the Macarthur Wind Farm – the largest wind farm in the southern hemisphere.*
  • Representing a bank syndicate on the AUD350 million project financing of the Bulgana Green Power Hub – an integrated wind farm and Tesla battery storage facility located in regional Victoria.* 
  • Representing the bank syndicate led by China Development Bank on Australian law aspects of US$1.3 billion facilities for the Sino Iron iron ore project in Western Australia.*
  • Representing the bank syndicate led by ICICI Bank on US$800 million financing of Lanco Resources and The Griffin Coal Mining Company and the ongoing development of the project.*
  • Advising Neoen, a leading French renewable energy company, on the AUD285 million debt financing for the 100MW first stage of its Hornsdale Wind Farm project near Jamestown in South Australia. The debt financing comprises a long-term senior debt facility from Germany’s KFW Ipex-Bank and France’s Societe Generale, with a smaller portion of junior debt from Investec. The deal is the first of the larger wind projects in Australia under the recent ACT 200MW Wind Auction and it is one of a few renewables projects in Australia to benefit from long-term debt financing.*
  • Advising Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO) on the acquisition of the AUD350 million Boco Rock wind farm from Asia Pacific Renewables and GE EFS and the related project financing of that acquisition.*
  • Advising Malakoff Corporation Berhad, a Malaysian power producer, on its acquisition and financing of a 50% interest in the AUD1.2 billion Macarthur Wind Farm in Victoria from Meridian Energy and subsequently advised Malakoff Corporation Berhad, in relation to AGL's AUD532 million sale of 50% interest in the Macarthur Wind Farm to private equity firm, HRL Morrison & Co. The Macarthur Wind Farm is located in south-west Victoria, Australia and is the largest wind farm in the southern hemisphere.*

Acquisition Finance
  • Advising CIMB Bank Berhad on Australian law aspects of the restructure of approx. US$63 million loan facilities provided to Qualitas Healthcare Corporation Sdn Bhd in readiness for Qualitas’ IPO on the Singapore exchange.*
  • Advising Platinum Equity, a major US based private equity firm, on its first acquisition in Australia - the AUD454 million purchase of a 70% stake in Sensis from Telstra.*
  • Advising RCL Group, a privately-owned residential land developer, on its debt facilities for its acquisition of a portfolio of residential land projects across Australia and New Zealand.*

Property Finance
  • Advising a club of lenders on approx. AUD500 million banking facilities to the Merivale Group to accommodate future transactions such as acquisition of hotel and entertainment assets.*
  • Advising a Macquarie Bank managed unlisted real-estate fund on AUD65 million bridging finance with security over offshore assets.*
  • Advising Lantern Hotel Group on the re-negotiation and restructure of AUD100 million banking facilities as a result of the change in fund manager and to accommodate future transactions such as acquisition of pub assets and the restructure of the group’s investment in the Panthers Group.*
  • Advising Starhill REIT, Malaysian listed hospitality trust, on acquisition funding for purchase of hotel and business assets of Sydney Harbour Marriot Hotel, Brisbane Marriott Hotel and Melbourne Marriott Hotel.*

Debt Restructuring
  • Advising a syndicate of domestic and international banks in relation to the restructure of the approx. AUD1 billion bank debt of Babcock & Brown.*
  • Advising a syndicate of domestic banks in relation to the restructure of the approx. AUD800 million bank debt of A.B.C. Learning Centres.*
  • Advising National Australia Bank in connection with a restructure of a facility to a distressed unlisted property fund.*
  • Advising the receivers and administrators appointed to the Fincorp Group in connection with the sale of assets to Becton.*
