Sarah Emerson is a senior associate in the firm’s London office. She concentrates her practice on contentious insurance matters and commercial dispute resolution. Her work includes policy coverage advice and insurance-related litigation & arbitration.

Ms. Emerson advises on commercial all risk, contractors all risk, property liability, product liability, public liability and professional indemnity policies and she has recently advised two large construction companies in relation to insurance coverage under their professional indemnity policies following issues arising after the Grenfell Tower fire, site and also acted for a large investment management company in relation to a number of insurance disputes.

Ms. Emerson also continues to represent client’s interests in court proceedings, during alternative dispute resolution (ADR), at Inquests, in arbitration (including Bermuda Form arbitration) and through investigations by regulatory bodies.

Her practice is focused on assisting policyholders in relation to their insurance policies, in particular with regard to issues concerning policy cover and representing clients in related litigation and arbitration.

She also acts in a non-contentious capacity assisting with policy wording reviews.

Professional Background

Ms. Emerson qualified in 2009. Prior to joining K&L Gates, Sarah worked in the London office of a global law firm.

  • Working with lawyers in other global offices on multijurisdictional cases, offering an English law perspective in relation to jurisdiction clauses and local law issues relating to interpretation of policy wording and / or policy coverage disputes.
  • Assisting at arbitration in relation to a significant construction dispute.
  • Involvement in strategic litigation in the Commercial Court.
  • Defending clients at Inquests and during criminal proceedings.
