Joan Travostino practices primarily in the areas of real estate, commercial transactions and finance. As an outgrowth of real estate and financing, she has represented a number of creditors in various types of bankruptcy proceedings. Her practice areas frequently overlap in a community the size of Anchorage. Her experience in real estate includes representing sellers and buyers of real estate, and advising on commercial building leases. Her participation in commercial transactions includes representing buyers and sellers of businesses and separate assets within businesses, and raising private capital. Her work in finance covers representing lenders in real estate financing and work outs of prior financing transactions and lender's issues with the personal property offered in non–real estate commercial financing. Because Alaska's economy is mostly based on natural resources, she has specific commercial experience with mining and fishing transactions. She has recently given educational presentations on real estate issues in bankruptcy proceedings to members of the local real estate community.
