Mr. Gose is the senior lawyer practicing finance, insolvency and real estate law. He counsels participants in public/private real estate development projects and has published in this area. He also publishes extensively in the general field of real estate law and has been a frequent panelist and speaker for local, national and international groups addressing real estate-related issues such as: leases, joint ventures, defaults, workouts, bankruptcy and due-on-sale clauses. He is an adjunct professor at Seattle University Law School. Mr. Gose was appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the nine-member National Bankruptcy Review Commission and was one of the authors of the proposed Small Business and Single Asset Real Estate portions of the Commission’s report.
He has been very active in the real property security area. He is the author of The Trust Deed Act in Washington, 41 Wash. L. Rev. 94 (1966) and was retained by the Mortgage Bankers Association in 1969 to draft the legislation that made the Trust Deed a viable lending instrument in Washington. He has since participated in drafting several amendments to that act (RCW 61.24). Mr. Gose was the lead counsel in several cases dealing with various aspects of “locks,” due-on-sale clauses and prepayment provisions, McCausland v. Bankers Life, 110 Wn.2d 716, 757 P.2d 941 (1988), and Rodgers v. Rainier National Bank, 111 Wn.2d 232, 757 P.2d 976 (1988).
He is past chairman of the Real Property Probate and Trust Section of the American Bar Association (1983-84), past chairman of the Anglo-American Real Property Institute (1987), past president of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (1988), past president of the Pacific Real Estate Institute and second vice president of the Institute for Land Information. He is the Washington State secretary for the Selden Society. Mr. Gose was an advisor to Restatement of the Law Third, The American Law Institute Restatement of the Law, Property-Security (Mortgages). He is a veteran of the Korean conflict, a colonel in the U.S.M.C.R. (Ret.), and past-president of the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association.
Mr. Gose was a Judicial Clerk, for Hon. Frederick G. Hamley, former Chief Justice, Washington State Supreme Court and Judge, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, 1955-56.
