Jonathan Blaney is a counsel with the firm. His practice encompasses complex commercial, construction, power, energy and infrastructure work with a particular focus on project advisory work, dispute resolution and international arbitration.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Jonathan worked at a number of leading international law firms advising clients in respect of matters in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Jonathan has advised under both the civil and common law.

  • Advised a leading international company in respect of a US$ multi-million dollar arbitration seated in Dubai and conducted under the ICC Rules arising from the extension of a Middle Eastern airport.
  • Advised a joint venture on a complex US$ 500 million arbitration seated in Qatar and conducted under the ICC rules arising from the completion of two LNG super trains.
  • Advised a multinational engineering company in respect of potential claims and litigation strategy arising from the design and construction of a mine water treatment plant.
  • Advised an international joint venture regarding aspects of a US$ 14 billion onshore LNG processing and storage facility, including representation in complex arbitration proceedings seated in Singapore and conducted under the ICC Rules.
  • Assisted in advising an international joint venture in relation to a complex Euro 7 billion Stockholm seated arbitration conducted under the ICC Rules arising from the construction of a third generation power plant.
  • Advised on a multi-billion US$ cross-jurisdictional FCPA investigation for a global multinational as part of cross-border team. Advised an international joint venture partner on a A$750 million professional indemnity insurance claim in the Supreme Court concerning the development of a multimillion dollar LNG pipeline project.
  • Assisted in advising on aspects of the US$ multi-billion tower development in Saudi Arabia.
  • Assisted in advising the government of Kuwait (through a national development and procurement body) in relation to the structuring, development, procurement and implementation of a US$ multi-billion PPP metro rail project.
  • Assisted in advising an international consortium on contracts for a large multimillion USD solar plant in North Africa.
  • Advised in advising the development arm of a Saudi Arabian government entity on the multi-billion dollar metro rail project in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
  • Advised an international consortium at the bidding stage of an IWP in Oman.
  • Advised a quasi-government organization on the development, procurement and implementation of O&M services for a multi-billion dirham green field rail system in the UAE.
  • Advised a quasi-Middle Eastern government entity in relation to AED multi- billion DIAC international arbitration concerning the construction of a large commercial sporting development.
  • Provided project counsel and arbitration support to a large Chinese quasi-government entity with regard to multiple ICC and DIAC arbitrations arising from construction and development projects in the Middle East.
