Kathryn F. Taylor represents clients in high-stakes litigation in State and Federal courts across the United States. Her broad experience includes litigating breach of contract, fiduciary duty, fraud and misrepresentation, professional negligence, class actions, consumer fraud, breach of warranty and reinsurance matters. Ms. Taylor has represented numerous Fortune 50 companies in complex cases, and has effectively managed all aspects of complex litigation, including electronic preservation and discovery issues, selection and preparation of technical and damages experts, consolidation and coordination of multiple lawsuits across jurisdictions, discovery, mediation and settlement conferences, and trial. She has extensive experience litigating IT outsourcing disputes, particularly on behalf of State and Local government contractors. Ms. Taylor also has extensive experience litigating issues relating to derivatives and over-the-counter commodities trading, reinsurance industry financials and private equity transactions. Her clients have included companies in the technology consulting industry, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, private equity investors, major automotive manufacturers and reinsurance brokers and underwriters.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Kathryn was a partner at a large international law firm based in Chicago, where she served as a member of the firm’s Legal Assistant Review Committee and the Women’s Leadership Initiative.

  • “Building a Stronger Foundation to Avoid Catastrophic Losses,” Eastern Branch of the North Carolina Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, May 19, 2016
  • Represented a major international oil and gas company in multidistrict litigation putative class actions concerning allegations of propane trading manipulation.
  • Defended a major international insurance and reinsurance brokerage in complex litigation in both Texas federal court and California state court concerning allegations of broker malpractice and misrepresentation; client was granted summary judgment in its favor in both cases; Texas decision was affirmed by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Represented project-level debtor subsidiaries of a national mall developer in connection with motions to dismiss and other disputes arising in Chapter 11 reorganization.
  • As lead trial counsel, defended a manufacturer of lockers and metal storage systems in a three-week jury trial concerning allegations that the manufacturer had breached steel supply contracts.
  • Represented a national consulting firm in litigation arising out of contractual disputes over large-scale consulting and technology implementation arrangements.
  • Represented a private equity investor in obtaining dismissal of a complaint alleging short-swing insider trading of derivative securities; decision affirmed by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Represented clients in putative class actions alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act’s “junk fax” provisions, and has provided counseling regarding TCPA compliance.
  • Represented major international oil and gas company before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation; client obtained consolidation and coordination of more than 300 separate lawsuits alleging property damage and personal injuries arising from an oil spill.
