Mr. Ash is government affairs advisor in the firm’s Austin office.

Professional Background

Mr. Ash has nearly two decades of experience working in Texas state government covering all major policy areas with a particular emphasis on budget, economic development, energy, and tax policy.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Ash was State Budget Director for Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the Governor’s designee Chair of the Texas Bond Review Board.

Prior to joining Governor Abbott’s office, Mr. Ash spent more than 15 years in the Texas House of Representatives working as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for Texas State Representative Jim Keffer. He also served as Chief Clerk for several Texas House committees, including Ways and Means, Energy Resources, Economic Development, and the Select Committee on Property Tax Relief.

Additional Information

Mr. Ash has negotiated many complex bills through the legislative process, including passage of the nation’s first hydraulic fracturing fluid disclosure bill; legislation authorizing Texas to issue $3 billion in bonds to fund groundbreaking cancer research and prevention programs; and the restructuring of the state tax system to fund Texas public schools. During his tenure as Chief Clerk for the House Committee on Economic Development, he provided leadership in the restructuring of Texas' economic development efforts including, the creation of the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism, Texas Enterprise Fund, and Texas Economic Development Bank.
