Mr. McCarthy is a leading insolvency and reconstruction lawyer based in Sydney, Australia. In practice since 1999, he has worked on some of Australia's largest insolvencies and informal workouts. These insolvencies cover a range of industries including: acting on an 18 month trade-on receivership and ultimate sale of what was then the world's largest childcare centre operator; acting for the receivers on the collapse of Australia's first and only private satellite operator; and acting on the administration and then liquidation of a large multinational Australian construction company.
Mr. McCarthy has a particular interest in cross-border insolvency. These issues have factored significantly in several of the matters he has acted in. He is a Fellow of INSOL International, having completed the Global Insolvency Practitioner's Course in 2014, graduating with honours. He was named one of Global Restructuring Reviews '40 under 40' in 2016.
In addition to his insolvency and reconstruction experience, Mr. McCarthy has extensive experience in commercial litigation, banking litigation, security enforcement and fraud recovery. Mr. McCarthy is also a recognised specialist in the application of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth).
Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr. McCarthy was a partner from 2010 to 2015 at a leading Australian insolvency law firm, where he was the client relationship partner for a leading Australian insolvency, advisory and forensics accounting firm.
