The firm opened its New York office on October 1, 1993 with a group of lawyers who had practiced together in New York since the 1970s.   Over the years, the New York office has grown from a boutique litigation practice to a multi-disciplinary office that provides legal counsel in areas such as corporate and transactional, capital markets, investment management, finance, real estate, intellectual property, taxation, employee benefits, and litigation, including bankruptcy/restructuring, securities enforcement, and white collar crime/criminal defense.

Today the New York office continues to expand its core practice areas through organic growth and strategic additions.   As a result, we are able to seamlessly provide our clients with a cross-section of legal services.

Our investment management lawyers counsel clients in the design, distribution, marketing, and management of numerous types of investment products, including registered mutual funds, hedge funds, offshore funds, exchange-traded funds, other private investment funds, and individually managed accounts. They also develop compliance systems and regulatory controls, respond to regulatory issues raised by the SEC staff during inspections, and design products to meet the unique needs of our clients.

Our real estate lawyers represent domestic and international clients in commercial real estate, with a concentration in commercial real estate transactions, retail and commercial leasing, finance and complex restructuring arrangements for both lender and borrower entities. Their extensive experience includes the negotiation, structuring and documentation of acquisitions, dispositions and co-investment transactions; commercial lending, including construction, acquisition and permanent financing; preferred equity arrangements; mezzanine financings and other highly structured financing transactions.  Our real estate attorneys have significant experience representing lenders, borrowers and special servicers in workouts, restructuring of all types of financing arrangements as well as securitized products, including loans secured by single or multiple assets, and also including multi-jurisdictional collateral.

In the manufacturing sector, our environmental lawyers counsel clients on issues including air, water, waste, CERCLA, noise, natural resources damages, and constitutional environmental litigation.

In the area of public-private partnerships/private finance initiatives, our experienced lawyers represent public and private entities in infrastructure project development, finance, contracting, and procurement.

Our intellectual property lawyers serve a diverse clientele, ranging from major international corporations to individuals. Their experience encompasses patent and trademark litigation, technology licensing, procurement of patents, trademarks, and other rights in the US and worldwide.   Our intellectual property lawyers have extensive experience in IP portfolio management and counsel clients on opportunities to build and monetize their portfolios.  Our IP lawyers are also actively involved in business and commercial transactions that relate to IP or have an IP component, including joint development initiatives, licensing, IP purchases and sales, M&A, and clearance and due diligence projects.  In addition they provide advice on privacy matters including children’s privacy, and prepare associated privacy policies and other end user and terms of use agreements.

In the patent area our lawyers handle a range of matters in the technology sector, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics, electronic and computer equipment, software, Internet and telecommunication technology, financial services, consumer goods, and gaming and wagering.   In the trademark area, our lawyers assist global companies with establishing brand name rights and protection.  Industries served include fashion, entertainment, cosmetics, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, photography, and electronic and computer equipment.

Our labor and employment lawyers counsel clients on legal compliance and litigation issues, including wage and hour, employment discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment and non-compete matters. Having been involved in various corporate transactions, our lawyers also advise clients on labor and employment issues that arise in mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, they provide clients with preventive litigation strategies through management training programs and compliance audits. When trial is inevitable, our labor and employment lawyers rely on their courtroom experience to help clients achieve the best possible outcome.
