Max A. Gelernter

Max Gelernter is a second year associate in the firm’s Pittsburgh office, where he is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation & Disputes practice group. Mr. Gelernter also focuses his practice on insurance and intellectual property matters.

As part of his Complex Commercial Litigation & Disputes practice, Mr. Gelernter has broad pre-trial litigation experience, including conducting fact depositions, drafting various discovery motions, responding to discovery requests, and assisting in drafting key dispositive motions. Mr. Gelernter has successfully settled a contractual dispute on behalf of his client.

As part of his intellectual property practice, Mr. Gelernter focuses on multifaceted trademark issues. Mr. Gelernter has drafted documents with respect to trademark applications, such as a response to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Gelernter is also a dedicated member of the firm’s pro bono group. His main pro bono focus is assisting members of Pittsburgh’s LGBT community. Mr. Gelernter has successfully represented numerous transgender individuals seeking name changes and has secured Protection from Abuse (“PFA”) orders for victims of domestic violence seeking relief. Additionally, Mr. Gelernter represents pro bono clients in civil rights litigation involving Section 1983 and the Eighth Amendment.


Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gelernter was a summer associate in the firm’s Pittsburgh office in 2016. In addition, he was a law clerk at a Pennsylvania law firm in 2015. While at the Pennsylvania State University in the Schreyer Honors College, Mr. Gelernter wrote his thesis on the tension between the freedom of the press and the right to a speedy and public trial in the age of modern technology.
