Ms. Cesare-Eastman is an associate in K&L Gates’ San Francisco office.

Ms. Cesare-Eastman’s practice focuses on complex commercial and civil litigation, including the defense of commercial class action, product liability and toxic tort matters. She successfully represents clients in federal and state court cases and has experience in all phases of litigation from the filing of the complaint through discovery, trial preparation and appeal.

Ms. Cesare-Eastman is actively involved in the San Francisco Office’s Women in the Profession, a group that strives to promote the professional development and career advancement of female attorneys within the firm and greater legal community.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Cesare-Eastman was a legal extern for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. She was also a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office in San Francisco and the San Mateo District Attorney’s Office.

In addition to her thriving practice Ms. Cesare-Eastman has a strong commitment to the firm’s pro bono efforts.
  • On behalf of victim advocacy groups, Ms. Cesare-Eastman, with other K&L Gates attorneys, submitted an amicus curiae brief to the California Supreme Court in a criminal case, urging the California Supreme court to reject the defendant’s efforts, in the appeal of his conviction, to erode California’s rape shield law. In a unanimous decision favoring victims and citing the amicus brief, the California Supreme Court upheld the defendant’s conviction. People v. Fontana, 49 Cal.4th 351 (2010).
  • Ms. Cesare-Eastman, as part of a team of K&L Gates attorneys, has successfully obtained asylum for a client who was subject to gender violence in her home country, and for a client fleeing political persecution in his home country.
  • Ms. Cesare-Eastman has also represented indigent clients in eviction proceedings.
  • Worked with other K&L Gates attorneys to obtain summary judgment for venture capital funds and one of the fund’s principals in a case alleging misappropriation of trade secrets.
  • Successfully prepared and argued several motions for summary judgment on behalf of equipment manufacturers, including issues of first impression.
  • Negotiated case dismissals with opposing counsel.
  • Deposed expert witnesses, including medical, scientific and economic experts.
  • Developed deposition and discovery strategies resulting in successful case resolution, including taking and defending fact witness depositions.
  • Led collaborative effort among multiple co-defendants to develop pre-trial strategy.
  • Prepared motions in limine and trial briefs resulting in successful settlement outcome.
  • Prepared and successfully argued discovery motions.
