Michael Lignos is a litigation associate in the firm’s New York office and focuses his practice on admiralty and maritime law. Mr. Lignos has represented clients in a wide variety of domestic and international maritime matters. He has extensive experience advising shipping companies in matters arising from charterparty disputes, cargo damage claims, limitation of liability actions, marine insurance coverage, and vessel and cargo arrests and attachments in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Lignos has also provided advice to clients and developed strategy with respect to the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, the Clean Water Act, and other environment-related statutes.

Additionally, Mr. Lignos has experience in white collar criminal defense, securities enforcement, and internal investigations. In his career, Mr. Lignos has worked in New York and Paris with domestic and international clients, providing advice and strategy to clients in anti-racketeering and anti-corruption investigations following allegations of misconduct. He has engaged in discovery and other pretrial aspects of criminal and civil litigation before federal trial courts on behalf of individual and multinational corporate clients.

Mr. Lignos is fluent in Greek.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lignos was a litigation associate and summer law clerk at an international law firm headquartered in New York. In addition, he was a legal intern for the United Nations’ Office of Staff Legal Assistance.
