K&L Gates Changes Formal Firm Name
July 1, 2008
New York— The partners of global law firm K&L Gates have voted to change the firm’s formal name from Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP to K&L Gates LLP. The change, which is effective on July 1, capitalizes on the firm’s successful branding efforts since K&L Gates’ creation through the January 2007 combination of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham LLP and Preston Gates & Ellis LLP.
“In a short 18 months, ‘K&L Gates’ has come to reflect the converged brand power of the firm’s international platform,” said K&L Gates Chairman and Global Managing Partner Peter J. Kalis. “The name ‘K&L Gates’ has been well received by the business community, courts and other governmental agencies, legal journalists, and lawyers throughout the profession.”
Law firm branding consultant Norm Rubenstein of Zeughauser Group said: “In its march towards global prominence, K&L Gates has accomplished two enviable goals: it has grown strategically--both in service mix and footprint--and it has managed effectively how clients, prospects, and recruits understand its new scope. Shortening its name is a savvy accommodation to a marketplace that has followed its expanding platform with interest and that already knows the firm as K&L Gates.”
