Nigel Stamp is a partner in the firm’s Hong Kong office where he is the Asia lead for the commercial, technology and sourcing practice group. Nigel specialises in technology and telecoms outsourcing and procurement, data privacy, fintech, IT and cybersecurity, and general commercial projects in Hong Kong, China and throughout Asia.

Nigel has advised some of the world’s leading financial institutions, household name suppliers of electronics products, global telecommunications and leading media companies on major projects in the Asia Pacific region in the nearly 20 years he has been practising in Hong Kong, China and throughout Asia.

During this time, Nigel has assisted in the negotiation of and advised on global IT and other outsourcing projects, regional and global data privacy projects in multiple jurisdictions across the world, large scale IP infringements in particular in China, ground breaking media projects, significant e-commerce projects, multi-million dollar IT procurement projects, and large scale projects on the internet, including in particular in China.

Nigel has particular expertise and experience in the negotiation of large global and/or strategic public and private cloud outsourcing transactions with major vendors, including advising on the data privacy, IT and cybersecurity aspects of those transactions.

Nigel also has significant experience and expertise in advising on significant data centre projects including the negotiating and drafting of complex data centre outsourcing agreements for the provision of co-located data centre space and related services.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stamp was a partner in, and Head of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) groups in Asia for several leading global law firms. He has also been recognised by Chambers, Asia Pacific Legal 500 and other directories as a leading individual in his field for many years.

  • Advising Japan’s largest investment bank on all its high value, global and/or strategic IT and telecoms procurement and outsourcing transactions, most if not all of which are with the world’s leading technology providers. This includes in particular, the following:
    • Advising on a large data centre project in Tokyo
    • Advising on a global HR public cloud outsourcing project
    • Advising on all the IT and Telecoms aspects of a joint venture project in China, including the licensing, maintenance and support of its main trading systems and three data centre outsourcing transactions for the provision of data centre space and related services with three different vendors in three different locations
    • Advising on a large multi-jurisdictional data privacy survey
  • Advised a leading bank in the United Arab Emirates on a major regulator driven data centre outsourcing project.
  • Advising the China joint venture of one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies on all technology IP issues.
  • Advising a leading 3D printing manufacturer on a significant 3D printing project in China.
  • Advising the investment banking arm of China’s largest bank on regulatory compliance in connection with its suite of IT template documentation.
  • Advising numerous global financial institutions and other MNCs on data privacy projects in the Asia Pacific region and globally.
  • Advising a FTSE 100 household name retail company on the establishment of its on-line presence in China.
