Ms. O'Brien is a lawyer in our complex litigation and dispute resolution team in our Sydney office. Ms. O'Brien assists clients by providing advice on a range of matters including general commercial litigation, contractual disputes and directors' duties. Ms. O'Brien also has experience in civil and criminal prosecutions, regulatory matters and insolvency.

Ms. O'Brien has civil and criminal litigation experience across all major court jurisdictions and tribunals. Ms. O'Brien has appeared as an advocate in the Federal Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra and also appears in State Courts at Directions Hearings.

Ms. O'Brien has experience in all aspects of matters including briefing and instructing counsel in examination hearings and complex trials in the Supreme Court of NSW, drafting submissions, pleadings and interlocutory proceedings, general case management and the preparation of expert and witness evidence.

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Ms. O'Brien was a lawyer at a national independent law firm, advising clients in the commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice area. She was also a graduate lawyer at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, NSW.

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Ms. O'Brien gained the following experience:
  • Acting for large Commonwealth Government Departments in the Federal Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia in insolvency proceedings.
  • Managing and advising private sector clients on litigated disputes regarding debt recovery.
  • Advising a National Regulatory Body in civil proceedings involving a workplace death.
  • Case management of fraud and money laundering prosecutions in State Courts.
  • Instructing Deputy Crown Prosecutor's in two complex homicide trials in the Supreme Court of NSW.
  • Assisting clients to respond to regulatory notices issued by ASIC, the ACCC and the AFP.
