Areas of Practice

Trevor is a partner in the Construction & Engineering practice group. Trevor qualified and practised as a civil engineer before becoming a lawyer and has significant expertise in both the contentious and non-contentious aspects of the construction and engineering sector. He has advised on major joint ventures and PFI projects where his engineering experience has provided an invaluable understanding of the contractual and procurement processes. He has also acted in major disputes, arbitration and litigation for leading contractors, insurers and equipment manufacturers. He is an accredited mediator and adjudicator and lectures on construction and engineering law.

Representative Experience
  • Commonwealth Games Stadium in Manchester - advising the contractor acting as Construction Manager and one of the major Trade Contractors on the terms of its two contracts.
  • National Physical Laboratories, Teddington - advising the consortium contractor on its PFI contract as part of the Project Group's team and negotiating the design and construction contract.
  • A13 Thames Gateway (England) DBFO Road Project - advising the consortium contractor on a PFI contract in excess of £200,000,000 as part of the Project Group's team.
  • Advising a major financial services group on the defence of substantial delay and loss and expense claims by the design and build contractor responsible for construction of its headquarters building.
  • Advising a livery company on substantial delay and loss and expense claims by the design and build contractor responsible for refurbishment of a listed office block.
  • Advising insurers in connection with Canary Wharf crane collapse.
  • Various PFI contracts - advising the design and build contractor and negotiating the contracts.
  • Advising insurers on the blast furnace explosion at Port Talbot.
  • A1/M Dishforth to Darrington DBFO Road Project - advising the consortium contractor on a PFI contract in excess of £220,000,000 as part of the Project Group's team.
  • Advising the design and build contractor on various NHS Trust PFI hospital projects including Newcastle, North Staffordshire,  Newham and Leicester.
  • Advising the contractor in an ICC arbitration concerning the emission of methane from a landfill site in the Middle East. 

Professional Background

Prior to joing K&L Gates, Trevor was a partner at one of the largest international law firms in the world. Before practising law, Trevor held positions as Senior Engineer for Bedfordshire County Council and as Engineer for the Department of the Transport and the Environment.
