Areas of Practice

Mr. Swope is a partner with K&L Gates and concentrates his practice in the area of complex commercial litigation with an emphasis in commercial, construction and bankruptcy law.  

Construction litigation experience includes representation of owners, general contractors and subcontractors in arbitration proceedings, lien proceedings, civil litigation in a variety of courts and administrative proceedings.  Mr. Swope has developed substantial experience representing owners and contractors in the context of bankruptcy proceedings and addressing the unique issues that are faced by owners and contractors whose projects are impacted by a bankruptcy or other financial difficulties.

Related experience includes:  drafting and negotiating construction and other commercial contracts; civil litigation and environmental compliance issues associated with underground storage tanks; filing and prosecution of mechanic’s liens in Pennsylvania and other states; and real estate tax assessment appeals for commercial and industrial properties.

Industry experience includes: steel; pulp and paper; electric generation; banking; highway construction; trucking; and agriculture.

Professional Background
Mr. Swope has lectured on a variety of legal issues, including underground storage tanks, environmental liability in real estate transactions and construction matters. He has also authored and co-authored several articles on various aspects of environmental law.
