Areas of Practice

Ms. Brody concentrates on federal and state regulatory compliance and enforcement matters, primarily for financial services providers. She represents banks, mortgage lenders and consumer finance companies on a variety of issues, including fair lending, privacy, and information security.  She also handles matters involving compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.

Representative Experience
  • Representing Countrywide Home Loans, Inc. in a loan pricing investigation and settlement with the New York State Attorney General.
  • Representing numerous national mortgage lenders in loan pricing investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Reserve Board, Department of Housing and Urban Development, state attorneys general and state banking agencies.
  • Structuring both retail and wholesale mortgage loan price monitoring and fair lending compliance programs for large national lenders.
  • Developing privacy compliance programs for mortgage lenders and consumer finance companies.
  • Developing GLBA and FCRA-compliant marketing arrangements for banks, mortgage companies and consumer finance companies.

Professional/Civic Activities
  • Member of Women in Housing and Finance and served on its Board from 2004 2006.
  • Serves on K&L Gates' associates committee and co-chaired the DC office's hiring committee from 2002-2004.
  • The 2008, 2009 and 2010 Chambers USA ranked Melanie among the top national lawyers practicing in Financial Services Regulation: Consumer Financial Services Regulation.
