Areas of Practice

Ms. Niles has a domestic and international business transactions practice centering on alternative investments, acquisitions and joint ventures.  She focuses her work on representing institutional investors in private equity funds, hedge funds and other alternative investments as well as strategic partnerships.  She also provides on-going advice on general corporate and business matters to clients of various sizes.

The emphasis of Ms. Niles' international work is with U.S. and Russian business clients engaging in trade and investment projects involving the Russian Far East.  She has advised clients on establishing joint ventures and other forms of presence under Russian law, as well as on various specific issues affecting trade with and operations in Russia.  Ms. Niles has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington School of Law teaching courses on Soviet and Russian law.  She is fluent in Russian and has worked and traveled extensively throughout the former Soviet Union.

Ms. Niles has been a member of the faculty of the ALI-ABA bi-annual seminar on fundamentals of international business transactions and she is a frequent speaker on international business matters.

  • Represented Tyson Seafoods, Inc. in its potential establishment of a joint venture seafood processing plant in Russia and other activities in Russia.
  • Represented Sound Ocean Systems, Inc. in its formation and ongoing operation of a joint venture with Central Marine Geological and Geophysical Expedition, a Russian research institute.
  • Representing Mercy Corps in its micro–lending project in Kazakhstan.
