Areas of Practice
Denise Stiffarm practices in the areas of municipal, land use and education law. Denise spends a significant portion of her practice providing land use, general municipal, and public policy advice to school districts. She also has experience working on a variety of public/private joint ventures and regularly advises several special purpose, entrepreneurial public entities.

Denise has worked with clients on a range of issues, including growth management, land use planning and permitting, environmental (NEPA/SEPA) review, endangered species policy, tribal rights and historic preservation matters. In addition, she regularly counsels clients on compliance with the State Open Public Meetings Act and the Public Records Act. She has also drafted and negotiated a variety of complex real estate documents and development agreements. Denise is an experienced advocate before state and local legislative bodies. She has drafted interlocal agreements and prepared text and comment for numerous proposed ordinances and legislation.

Professional/Civic Activities
Denise serves on the Board of the Chief Seattle Club, a nonprofit organization serving homeless and at–risk American Indian and Alaskan Native people, and also serves on the Club’s Capital Campaign Advisory Committee. In addition, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for YouthCare, an organization serving at–risk youth through a variety of residential and educational outreach programs. Denise previously served on the Audubon Washington State Board of Stewards and is now a member of the Seward Park Environmental and Audubon Center Board. She also previously served two terms as a member of the Pioneer Square Preservation Board and as a trustee for the King County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. Since 1998, Denise has served as a Law Alumni Ambassador for the University of Washington, conducting outreach to college, high school, and junior high school students of color. She is also a member of the Leadership Tomorrow class of 2001.

An enrolled member of the Gros Ventre Tribe of Montana, Denise is a member of the Northwest Indian Bar Association and the National Native American Bar Association.
