Areas of Practice

Mr. Wright is a partner in the Boston office of K&L Gates and has a broad-based commercial litigation practice, with a substantial focus on insurance coverage and construction litigation.  Mr. Wright has been actively involved in the trial and management of cases in federal and state courts in Massachusetts, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Illinois and a variety of other jurisdictions around the country.  In addition, Mr. Wright has extensive experience representing corporate and individual clients in arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution settings.

In the insurance coverage area, Mr. Wright has represented a wide range of policyholders, including publicly traded corporations, privately held corporations, and public entities, and has litigated coverage issues arising out of general liability policies, D&O policies, and a variety of property insurance policies.  

In addition, Mr. Wright also has extensive experience in the area of construction law, including the representation of public and private owners, general contractors and subcontractors.  His experience includes litigation, mediation, arbitration and negotiation of a wide range of construction disputes, including claims, bad faith claims, subcontractor claims and lien claims.

Representative Experience
Insurance Coverage Litigation
  • Representation of the MTA against property insurers to successfully recover repair costs associated with the ceiling collapse in the Central Artery and Third Tunnel Project, or "Big Dig" project in Boston.
  • Representation of network communications company in civil action under which the company sought and secured insurance coverage under its primary and excess D&O policy, for costs incurred defending against various actions brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission.  This action ultimately concluded with settlements in excess of $50 million.
  • Representation of agricultural cooperative and food processing corporation in litigation to recover defense costs under a Commercial General Liability Policy.  Matter settled after jury verdict in favor of policyholder.
Construction Litigation
  • Representation of the MTA against construction manager, general contractor, subcontractors, and design consultants in property damage lawsuit arising from the ceiling collapse on the Big Dig.  Matter settled as part of historic recovery against various entities, resulting in the Commonwealth's recovery of in excess of $450 million.
  • Representation of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority in connection with claims brought by general contractor arising out of the Big Dig.  Matter resulted in disputes review board finding in favor of MTA and awarding contractor no additional compensation.
  • Representation of developer in defense of multi-million dollar claims by excavation subcontractor and exterior wall systems subcontractor in two separate actions.  Both matters resulted in favorable negotiated settlement to owner and ultimately in a close-out settlement with the general contractor.
  • Representation of structural steel subcontractor in claims against general contractor.  Matter resulted in arbitration award in favor of subcontractor with punitive damages and attorneys' fees awarded under M.G.L. c. 93A.
