Mr. Tate, an associate in K&L Gates' Washington, D.C. office, focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense, environmental litigation and commercial litigation. He represents clients in criminal and civil actions in state and federal court, both at the trial and appellate level, as well as in administrative proceedings. Representative engagements include:

United States v. Tzeuton, 08-CR-94 (D. Md.): Counsel of record in representation of an individual in a four week complex conspiracy trial in federal court, involving charges of fraud and obstruction of justice;

United States v. Radley, 08-CR-411 (S.D. Tx.): Assisted in the representation of an individual charged with mail fraud and violations of the commodities laws, which resulted in a dismissal of the indictment;

United States v. Cota, 08-CR-160 (N.D. Cal.): Counsel of record in representation of an individual charged with a variety of environmental crimes arising from a marine accident in the San Francisco Bay;

Representation of a pharmaceutical company in a challenge to a Food and Drug Administration decision regarding eligibility for orphan drug designation and market exclusivity under sections 526 and 527 of the Orphan Drug Act.
Additionally, Mr. Tate has experience providing advice and advocacy on environmental matters, particularly compliance and enforcement issues under TSCA, NEPA, the Clean Water Act, and various state environmental laws.
Mr. Tate is an active participant in a variety of the firm's pro bono matters including multiple criminal postconviction appeals and civil rights cases in state and federal court.
Prior to joining K&L Gates Mr. Tate served as a teaching assistant and as a research assistant for the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
