Areas of Practice

John is a partner in the Projects/Public Private Partnerships group in London.  He has concentrated on PPP/PFI projects since their inception and has particular experience in waste management projects, acting for both public and private sectors on tied and merchant facilities.

Representative Experience
  • Advising the Council in relation to the South Gloucestershire Waste PFI project
  • Advising the Council in relation to the Sheffield Waste PPP project
  • Advising the Councils in relation to the Outline Business Case for the Central Berkshire Waste PFI Project
  • Advising the Authority in relation to the Western Riverside Waste PPP project
  • Advising the successful bidder in relation to the East London Waste Authority PFI Project
  • Advising the successful bidder in relation to the Wrexham Waste PPP Project
  • Advising a technology provider in relation to the incorporation of their technology into the operational Hereford & Worcester Waste PFI Contract
  • Advising the successful bidder in relation to the Wakefield Waste PFI Project
  • Advising Western Riverside Waste Authority in relation to the Belvedere Energy from Waste facility
  • Advising the successful bidder in relation to the Cumbria Waste PPP Project
  • Advising on waste supply and offtake contracts generally
  • Advising on offtake contracts for solid recovered fuel (SRF) and recyclates

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates in June 2009, John was a partner and Head of Waste Projects at an international law firm. John qualified as a solicitor in 1989.
