Ralph Surman is a litigation associate in the firm’s Pittsburgh office. He has a diverse corporate litigation practice, providing broad representation to a variety of private and public companies. His practice is primarily focused in the area of insurance recovery, where he has worked on multimillion dollar insurance coverage disputes involving long tail liabilities related to asbestos-containing products, environmental remediation, and product liabilities. He has represented policyholders seeking coverage under a variety of coverage programs, including liability, property, business interruption, and directors and officers policies, among others. Additionally, he has knowledge and experience concerning insurance implications of product recalls.

Mr. Surman also works with the Investigations, Enforcement and White Collar practice group, where he has experience representing entities in compliance efforts and internal investigations.

He also has an active pro bono practice, where he has represented clients in a wide array of matters, including insurance coverage disputes, property disputes, procurement of protection from abuse orders, child custody conciliations, criminal post-sentencing matters, and claims under Pennsylvania’s Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection laws.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Surman was a summer associate in the firm’s Pittsburgh office in 2014. In the summer of 2013, he served as a summer clerk for Judge Irene Keeley of the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.
