An interest in engineering led Tobias Gries, a partner in the firm’s Berlin office, to the practice of law. Growing up in East Germany, he had aspirations of becoming an engineer, combining his interest in technology and physics. All of that changed following the demolition of the Berlin Wall. The unification of Germany allowed for new educational and professional opportunities and Tobias pursued courses in European law at a newly opened university in Frankfurt. Following a legal internship, Tobias joined K&L Gates and pursued a practice in real estate. “The real estate practice has allowed me to combine my interests in engineering, technology, and physics, and is closely tied to my original career aspirations.” Now a partner, he credits his success to the firm’s approach to the practice of law and its investment in professional growth. “K&L Gates has a strong commitment to growth as well as a modern, client-oriented approach to providing legal services. We don’t sit and wait for a legal question. We partner with clients and actively engage in dialogue regarding their business and legal issues. This approach leads to finding the best solutions for our clients in a collaborative and creative environment.”
With a strong commitment to professional development, Tobias has had many opportunities to develop his legal skills. “From the start, I was given a lot of responsibility and was involved with clients early on.” This helped him not only understand what is required to satisfy clients but to exceed clients’ expectations and develop strong relationships. For Tobias, success comes when a client is happy and the best result is secured.
