Elsa Mak - Spotlight

Presenters: Elsa Mak
After receiving her education in New Zealand, Elsa Mak, an associate in Hong Kong, returned home to begin her legal career. She received her initial legal training as a trainee solicitor with K&L Gates in Hong Kong and became an associate after qualifying as a solicitor. “I was looking for a firm that provided good training and mentorship, as well as the exposure I needed to enhance my legal career.” Elsa’s practice focuses on general commercial and corporate finance transactions including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, private equity transactions, listing and corporate governance and other commercial matters.

Throughout her career, Elsa has gained experience in a variety of practice areas, while working directly with senior associates and partners across multiple offices. K&L Gates’ emphasis on associate mentoring and training, as well as the firm’s growth have positively impacted her own professional growth. “K&L Gates’ global platform cannot be matched. It has helped me expand my client connections by enhancing the level and breadth of client services. On the one hand, we can provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution to our clients’ needs, and on the other hand, I am able to broaden my own career by working with our lawyers across the globe.”

Elsa’s most memorable experience at K&L Gates involves working on a diverse team, and she is continuously surprised by how interesting and intellectually rewarding the practice of law can be. “I remember working very late one night on an urgent client matter, where, despite the fatigue, I was really enjoying myself. This experience was the perfect example of the collaborative, team-oriented, and supportive environment that exists here at K&L Gates.”
