Mackenzie Shea - Spotlight

Presenters: Mackenzie L. Shea
Boston associate Mackenzie Shea started her career with a regional Northeast law firm, but K&L Gates’ global platform served as a driving factor in her decision to join the firm in 2008. Given her focus on bankruptcy and insolvency matters which are national in nature, having offices across the United States has significantly enhanced her ability to service clients and work with lawyers from across the firm. “Having a wide footprint contributes to our ability to address client needs, wherever they may arise. This is one of our greatest strengths as a firm and it continues to grow as we expand into new and emerging markets.”

Mackenzie has been impressed by the firm’s broad practice strengths and its emphasis on cross-office collaboration, describing it as unmatched in the legal community. Lawyers aren’t competitive with each other or over client work – the multi-disciplined team-focus creates a collegial and cooperative environment. This approach has provided Mackenzie with ample opportunity to better develop her skills. “Each lawyer has their own unique take on how to tackle and solve client issues. I’ve learned fresh and creative problem solving skills while working alongside some of the best practitioners in the field.”

Since joining the firm, Mackenzie has received significant client and project responsibility along with personalized feedback that has enhanced her development. The firm’s emphasis on individual professional development has allowed her to grow at her own pace. “Associates aren’t boxed into the type of projects they receive based on their class level, but rather are tasked with assignments matched to their own skill set and performance. Partners and senior associates are ready and willing to give you that runway and to teach and mentor you in the process. It’s up to each associate to take control of their own career and seize the opportunities available.”
