Brexit: What Happens Next?

July 2016
Presenters: Tony Griffiths

Watch Webinar Recording. (CLE/CPD Credit Available)

Since the UK's entry into the European Economic Community in 1973, there have been concerns regarding the gradual erosion of sovereignty and the widening powers of the European Commission. On 23 June, the UK government held a Referendum pursuant to which the UK decided to withdraw from the 28-member European Union (EU).  A British exit, or Brexit, from the EU will have significant consequences for businesses throughout the world that have dealings (directly or indirectly) with the UK and Europe.

K&L Gates London Office Administrative Partner, Tony Griffiths, discusses the ramifications of the vote on the recent Brexit referendum and how this vote will impact your business.  His presentation includes:

  • Great Britain's (at least) two years dislocation from the EU
  • A very fraught period during which the UK’s future relationship with the EU is hammered out
  • Possible decades of trade deal negotiations around the world
  • Troubled international relations with EU countries, and
  • Possible demands by other EU countries for a Referendum in similar terms
