Delivering financially viable and sustainable brownfield developments

This one day conference explored what brownfield land development means for planning authorities and developers, examining issues around the financial viability and environmental risk of developments, as well as the effective use of data and mapping. It also created the case for developing more sustainable and connected communities supported by effective infrastructure.

Government views brownfield land as a key enabler for delivering new housing. In 2014 the Department for Local Government & Communities (DCLG) required local authorities to specify which brownfield sites would be subject to Local Development Orders. The government also announced that more than two thirds of new homes would be built on brownfield land, committing £1.2bn towards the preparation of brownfield sites.
