Robert Weiss is counsel in the firm’s New York office. He is a member of the asset management and investment funds practice area.

Professional Background

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Weiss served as a senior investment funds associate at a large international law firm, where he focused his practice on the formation, marketing, and closing of private funds, funds-of-one, and separately managed accounts. Mr. Weiss also advises sovereign wealth funds and other investors in LP investments in private equity and debt funds, as well as advising venture capital funds and corporate venture capital funds in venture investments. In addition, Mr. Weiss has advised new and existing managers on documentation of “house” arrangements.

Additional Information

Mr. Weiss previously led business development efforts for two New York-based tech companies, including an industry leader in immersive virtual experiences and virtual reality with over 65 employees and nationwide network of content and media producers and a data-driven internet real estate listing service (ILS) for rental homes and apartments backed by Y Combinator and the venture arm of Two Sigma. Mr. Weiss began his legal career in the New York office of a global law firm and served as in-house counsel to a financial services company specializing in secondary markets in insurance products.
  • Represented a global asset manager in the formation of its flagship private credit fund and several other commingled funds and fund-of-one/managed account mandates targeting private credit investments.
  • Formed an open-end fund focusing on CLO equity for a US-based CLO manager, incorporating an innovative redemption structure intended to enable regular redemptions without requiring untimely asset sales to obtain liquidity.
  • Currently representing an emerging VC fund manager in the formation of its second fund targeting $20 million for investments in a broad range of US- and Israeli-backed SAAS startups.
  • Represented a multi-billion dollar offshore family office in the termination of a long-standing relationship with a US investment manager and unwind of five separate private equity and venture capital funds in which the family office was the sole investor.
