Shawn Hogue focuses his practice on commercial disputes and has extensive experience working in complex commercial litigation. Mr. Hogue has represented clients across numerous sectors of the economy with regulatory compliance, risk management, and employment practices. He has experience working with both large and small companies that specialize in technology, food, entertainment, retail, and transportation. Mr. Hogue also has experience litigating and defending all aspects of Americans with Disabilities Act litigation. Mr. Hogue has published numerous articles on the issue of Web accessibility.

Mr. Hogue also has specialization and expertise working with clients on compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (“FSMA”) and has published several articles relating to FSMA law. Mr. Hogue is the co-author of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Food, Cosmetic, and Nutraceutical Committee Digest and he was recently appointed as the co-chair of the Food, Cosmetics and Nutraceuticals Committee of the ABA Section of Science & Technology Law. Additionally, in 2015, he organized a law review symposium co-sponsored by K&L Gates entitled “The Future of Food Safety.” The symposium featured prominent speakers commenting on the ramifications the FSMA has had on all sectors of the food industry, and he published a well-received law review article on the subject. He has been recognized as a thought leader on the subject.

Additionally, Mr. Hogue has experience working on a multidistrict litigation involving complex commercial/construction matters. He has also worked on cases involving securities fraud and other Ponzi schemes while at the firm. Mr. Hogue also advises clients on international regulatory compliance and other issues of international law.

Outside his legal practice, Mr. Hogue is the founder and organizer of a fiction and a nonfiction book club, which have both thrived in South Florida since 2013, and he has been recognized for their excellence in various media outlets.

Professional Background

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr. Hogue served as a lawyer at a national law firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he worked on sophisticated commercial matters, including the complex international Ponzi schemes of Bernard Madoff.

While in law school, he served as an intern in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami, and also at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in the chambers of Judge Juan Torruella. During law school, Mr. Hogue served as a Dean’s Fellow for Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, and Elements at the University of Miami School of Law. Mr. Hogue was also a recipient of the Cuttino Fellowship for admission at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, where he studied Diplomatic History. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Hogue taught Advanced Placement Economics and U.S. Government at the North Broward Preparatory School in Boca Raton, Florida.
